We have seen significant changes to search engines in 2020, and my prediction is these changes will evolve and get more prominent in 2021 and beyond, says Suganthan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His most significant prediction is around how artificial intelligence is starting to play an important role alongside more sophisticated algorithms (Machine learning\/Deep learning) in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"dekode-quote wp-block-dekode-quote has-background\">\n\t\t<div class=\"dekode-quote__inner\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"dekode-quote__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\" height=\"24\" width=\"24\" class=\"t2-icon t2-icon-quote\" aria-hidden=\"true\" focusable=\"false\"><path d=\"M9.87892 7.95775c-3.2556 0-5.13004 1.47887-5.13004 3.54925 2.46637-1.57742 6.11662-.1971 6.11662 3.2536C10.8655 17.2254 8.89238 19 6.32735 19 3.1704 19 1 16.338 1 12.7887 1 8.05634 4.65023 5 9.87892 5v2.95775Zm3.25558 4.83095C13.1345 8.05634 16.7848 5 22.0135 5v2.95775c-3.2557 0-5.1301 1.47887-5.1301 3.54925C19.3498 9.92958 23 11.3099 23 14.7606 23 17.2254 21.0269 19 18.4619 19c-3.157 0-5.3274-2.662-5.3274-6.2113Z\"\/><\/svg>\t\t\t\t\t\n\n<p>Because of the sophistication and improvement to these systems, companies like Google can let AI do all the heavy lifting when it comes to search.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite>Suganthan Mohanadasan<\/cite>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<p>He continues by telling that Google posted a series of updates recently about how they&#8217;re using AI to solve problems and serve users with better results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Few things they discussed include better detection of misspellings (Using BERT language understanding), passage ranking in which Google might find a particular part of your content, answers a specific query and decides to show that instead of your entire document. They also talked briefly about &laquo;subtopics&raquo; and how Google can find sub-topics related to a parent topic. We may be <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Suganthanmn\/status\/1328813571887788034\">already seeing<\/a> this in action in the SERPS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conversational-search-experience\">Conversational search experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sugantan tells us that very recently, Google came up with an update which said they had deployed a conversational search experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 With this approach, the search engine will remember your initial search and will provide suggestions for follow-up searches and relate it to your previous search. We first saw this with their Google assistant voice feature where you can ask Google a question about someone. e.g., <em>Who is Barack Obama? <\/em>and then instead of repeating <em>&laquo;How old is Barack Obama?<\/em>&raquo; you can simply say &laquo;<em>How old is he?<\/em>&raquo; The new web search feature is similar to this.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-predictive-search\">Predictive search<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Suganthan says that Google not only has improved the predictive search in which users are not required to search something, but instead the recommendation engine, <em>Google Discover, <\/em>will proactively show content to the user. (Google Discover cards)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 For example, Google can use implicit and explicit input from users to personalise results. It makes optimising content and doing SEO difficult. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/websearch\/answer\/2819496?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&amp;hl=no\">Google discover<\/a> is a recommendation engine which relies a lot on user inputs. We have seen Google doing so many small tweaks recently like adding a &laquo;Follow&raquo; button to entities, Like\/heart buttons for story cards. <em>Google Discover<\/em> will get better, and we can start seeing Google adding additional features to the feed instead of just showing a bunch of related stories.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He points out that we already see new features like &laquo;Recommended movies and shows&raquo; in the feed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 It&#8217;s the same as watching Netflix and seeing shows and movies &laquo;Recommended for you&raquo; or Spotify &laquo;Curated playlists&raquo; for you. It means it will be difficult to influence these signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-using-entities-to-understand\">Using entities to understand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Suganthan predicts that entities will play a huge role as well, and Google will rely on this heavily in the coming years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Search engines like Google can extract entities from your content, images and even from YouTube videos (Auto captioning YouTube video).
